ABOUT ME

 

My name is Helen and I have my own successful business called Bodysmart Fitness and I teach my classes in various locations across the Isle of Wight.

Whilst I am qualified to teach a variety of exercise classes (see below) classes on hold and now teach a variety of classes catering for young adults right through to seniors (my oldest regular is 83 1/2 – Henry!)

How did I start?

I started to get into fitness in a big way in 2002 when I also became a member of Weight Watchers. Anyone who knows me already will already know that I love my food, especially all of the things that ultimately contribute to an unhealthy lifestyle and can play a big part in weight gain (This is what we DONT want!) I then realised I needed to find a compromise between eating healthily for life and still being able to have treats if I wanted them.

Growing up in a family of serial dieters has been kind of tough, From a young age I started to yo-yo diet, lose a few pounds and as a reward I would eat more and therefore gain the weight I had lost. Anyway I don’t want to bore you all with too many details but basically I started Weight Watchers and started to exercise regularly, slowly but steadily I lost two and a half stones.

It was whilst participating in a RPM fitness class one day I thought I would like to be able to teach fitness classes myself and decided to do some training to enable me to do this. There are a lot of Instructors out there who are teaching only for themselves, don’t really care about the participants in the class and just want the big numbers in. I have been to many classes over the years where you just get ignored and left to get on with your own thing. This is bad for two reasons, 1- You could be doing the exercise in an unsafe manner and get injured, 2 – it really doesn’t make you feel like belong in the class and can leave you feeling awkward and unwilling to go back.

In 2008 I thought I need to ‘GET OUT THERE’ into the community and help people get into fitness who are perhaps a bit wary of entering a gym environment or those who would prefer the more personal/friendlier touch from an individual Instructor not a gym just trying to make BIG BUCKS! It needs a commitment from you to attend the sessions and a commitment from me to motivate you to work to your full potential so you will see and feel the benefit! (I am willing if you are!)
